Seeing Master Chief blast Covenant forces on a Nintendo handheld would've been pure fantasy just a few years ago. Now? It looks like it's actually happening. Industry insider NateTheHate dropped a bombshell recently - Microsoft is planning to bring both Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Flight Simulator to the Switch 2 in 2025.

For those who might not know, The Master Chief Collection isn't just one game - it's six complete Halo campaigns, from Combat Evolved through Halo 4, plus every multiplayer map the series has ever seen. Getting this collection, which pushed even the Xbox One's hardware when it launched, running on Nintendo hardware would be a massive technical achievement.

This latest development follows Microsoft's ongoing platform expansion. They've already brought games like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush to PS5, and Pentiment made its way to the current Switch. But Halo? That's different. We're talking about the franchise that literally built Xbox, moving over 82 million copies since Combat Evolved launched alongside the original console in 2001.

The technical ambitions don't stop there. Microsoft's reportedly planning to enhance their entire Nintendo lineup with 4K support and other improvements for Switch 2. What's particularly interesting here is the timing - these upgrades suggest the Switch 2 will pack significantly more power than its predecessor, potentially closing the hardware gap with Xbox Series S. Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush are apparently in line for the Switch 2 treatment too, though Hi-Fi Rush's future is less certain following Tango Gameworks' acquisition by Krafton.

Square Enix isn't sitting on the sidelines either - looks like they're jumping on the Switch 2 train with some heavy hitters. Word is Final Fantasy 7 Remake will hit the new console this year, with Rebirth following in 2026. Not exactly shocking if you've been paying attention - Square Enix just told their investors they need to get their games on more platforms, especially after Rebirth's PS5 sales didn't quite hit the mark they were hoping for. The timing is particularly noteworthy - getting these massive games running on Switch 2 would be a strong statement about the console's capabilities, considering FF7 Remake's demanding visual effects and massive environments.

Of course, there's still one tiny detail missing in all of this – Nintendo hasn't actually shown us the Switch 2 yet. While the internet's been flooded with alleged leaks showing everything from the console's design to its logo, Nintendo's keeping officially quiet. The only concrete detail we have is that they'll unveil it before their financial year wraps up on March 31st.

Until then, we'll have to imagine what it might be like to finally take Master Chief on the go. Strange times in gaming, indeed - and while NateTheHate's got a solid track record with these things, we'll still have to wait for official word from Nintendo and Microsoft to know for sure.
