Dead Space fans, brace yourselves. Turns out, a Dead Space 4 almost happened. Key members of the original dev team were ready to roll, itching to dive back into the necromorph-infested universe. They even pitched the idea to EA. But here's the kicker: EA wasn't biting.
Glen Schofield, the OG director, along with creative director Bret Robbins and animation director Christopher Stone, confirmed they tried to get the ball rolling on a sequel. This wasn't some ancient history thing either – they made the pitch this year. Imagine that.
Schofield, in an interview with Dan Allen Gaming, explained EA basically gave them the cold shoulder. “Not interested right now,” was the gist. Ouch. They didn't push it, respecting EA's position. After all, publishers gotta crunch those numbers, right? They know their roadmap.
Stone added they were all on board. But the gaming landscape is…well, it’s a bit of a gamble these days. Studios are hesitant to greenlight risky projects. So, they’re taking it in stride. Still, they teased that some ideas are brewing. Intriguing, isn't it?
When asked point-blank if they’d return to the series, Stone was emphatic: “I’d make a Dead Space 4.” Schofield echoed the sentiment with a simple “Yes.” Robbins, though? He kept mum. Schofield jokingly pointed out Robbins is busy with his own gig at Absurd Ventures, working alongside Dan Houser. Can't blame him for sticking with a winning hand.
Remember those rumors earlier this year? The ones suggesting the whole Dead Space franchise was on ice, despite the remake's critical acclaim? Seems there might be some truth to them. So, while the remake was a welcome return to the Ishimura, the future of Dead Space remains shrouded in that familiar, eerie fog. The potential for a sequel was there, a real possibility, but for now, it's back to the cryo-sleep.
