Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed to March 20, pushing back from its planned Valentine's Day release. The news comes as part of a larger Ubisoft announcement that signals potential major changes for the publisher.
During Thursday's "strategic update," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced the company has appointed financial advisors to explore "strategic and capitalistic options" - language that aligns with recent industry speculation about a potential sale of the publisher.
"We're confident this will position Ubisoft for a stronger future," Guillemot said in the press release, noting plans to "unlock the full value potential of our assets."
The Shadows delay adds to a challenging period for Ubisoft's release calendar. The publisher has already adjusted launch windows for both Skull & Bones and XDefiant this year. While citing community feedback and polish as reasons for Shadows' delay, this particular schedule change arrives alongside the company's broader strategic review.
The extra development time comes during a positive period for the franchise, following Assassin's Creed Mirage's successful return to the series' roots. Ubisoft says the additional weeks will "help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to engage closely with the increasingly positive Assassin's Creed community."
We have reached out to Ubisoft for additional details about specific development areas being addressed during the delay.
